Phagocytic Multiple Myeloma -Report of a Case -

Abstract
|
|
|
A case of phagocytic, IgG λ, multiple myeloma was characterized by its clinical, morphologic and immunohistochemical features. A 75-year-old woman presented with hepatomegaly, anemia, lytic bone lesions, IgG λmonoclonal gammopathy. And
infiltration of
the bone marrow by atypical plasma cells, about 10% of which showed phagocytosis of platelets (mainly), erythrocytes, erythorocytic precursors, and lymphocytes. Immunohistochemical staining for λ light chain revealed a monoclonal λpattern in
both
phagocytic and non-phagocytic myeloma cells. The several suggestions for explaining this phenomenon, related to the cellular origin of phagocytic myeloma cells, were discussed in this report. However, the clinical significance and exact
pathogenesis of
phagocytic myeloma cells remain unclear.(Korean J Clin Path ol 1994 : 14(1) : 57-60)
